性狀描述：，外觀為桔紅色針狀結晶熔點204-205℃。溶于水和醇，不溶于丙酮、苯、氯仿、乙醚。
由松鏈絲菌淺灰色變株(Str.Peucetius var.Caesius)的培養液提取而得。本品化學結構與柔紅霉素類似，因此可以由柔紅霉素化學轉化而制得。目前已可化學全合成。
藥理作用：可穿透進入細胞與腫瘤細胞ＤＮＡ交叉，聯結，抑制ＤＮＡ復制，并阻斷ＲＮＡ聚合酶的作用，抑制ＲＮＡ的合成；其細胞毒作用與自由基形成，與腫瘤細胞膜結合和破快細胞膜有關。
適應癥： 用于**急性**細胞白血病、急性粒細胞性白血病、霍奇金病和非霍奇金病**瘤、乳腺癌、肺癌、卵巢癌、軟組織肉瘤、成骨肉瘤、橫紋肌肉瘤、腎母細胞瘤、神經母細胞瘤、膀胱瘤、甲狀腺瘤、絨毛膜上皮癌、前列腺癌、睪丸癌、胃癌、肝癌等。
